#FridayThoughts | 13/1/17

If you aren’t familiar with any of my previous posts my name’s Charlie and I’m Win Media’s new Content and Social Media Apprentice (you can read my last post here.)  I came up with the idea of starting a segment on the blog called #FridayThoughts where every Friday I produce a post on my Social Media highlights of the week, from Brands that are doing Social Media well to those who I think could benefit from Win Media’s help 😉

Emojis:

When I was curating content for the Win Media Social (if you’re not following Twitter , Facebook) I came across an article on The Social Impact of Emojis. The article talked about how an increasing amount of brands are using Emoji’s to promote their content and even to form their content. I thought that was really interesting and I have noticed more and more brands using Emojis to relate to and engage with their audience.

Two of my favourites were these below:

You’ll see both Tweets received huge interaction so it’s clearly a viable Marketing ploy and something I’m going to start implementing more within my Win Media Social posts.

I think they are a really fun way of appealing to your audience. It’s refreshing to see brands not take Social Media crazily serious and it’s almost guaranteed to make your audience build a rapport with your brand.

#Savage burgers:

A brand that have definately got everybody talking on Social Media is US Burger Chain, Wendy’s. Social Media users have been tweeting the brand and receiving some...interesting replies.

It all started on 30th December with this interaction:

But it definitely didn’t stop there, take a look at some of the conversations that went down between Wendy’s and...fans?

You might think bad-mouthing your competitors would have a negative effect on your image, in this case I think it might help them, what do you think?

Some tried to get Wendy’s to notice them to which they responded….

I think the popularity of this Marketing tactic shows the importance of showing some personality on Social Media. It’s a platform to express yourself and I think consumers like something that’s a bit different and controversial.

There’s been huge hype around this on Social Media and if you do a quick search you’ll see users love what Wendy’s have pulled off on the platform.

Social Media Marketing is all about generating leads and they have clearly done that, as well as giving us all a laugh, props to Wendy’s for taking this risk and I can only expect we will see other brands mirror their tactics in the future, but will they be just as successful?

Ed Sheeran’s Snapchat Filter:

Superstar Ed Sheeran took a break from music for a year so of course he had to come back with not one but two singles.

A huge release like this needs a huge Marketing Campaign so Ed only went and nabbed himself a Snapchat filter! The filter has a 30 second clip to his new song as well as a pair of blue glasses as the visuals. We know Snapchat is huge with over 100 million active users and with 9,000 Snaps sent a second you can expect his filter has received massive exposure. Snapchat’s demographic is similar to that of Ed Sheeran’s so it is a great platform to use to promote a song as well as being a unique way of spreading the word.

Did you use the filter? What did you think? Do you think other artists will follow in Ed’s footsteps?

Just Eat on Facebook Messenger:

This isn’t something that has launched this week but it’s something I have recently tried out and I think it’s a great idea! Just Eat recently launched a Facebook Messenger service where you can get support on any queries, find top restaurants near you and pick your favourite flavours and be given a list of restaurants near you.

You go through the process of talking with a bot deciding exactly what you want to eat where you are then directed to the Just Eat website to complete your order. This is great for somebody like me who is so indecisive on where or what to eat and it’s also a fun way of interacting with your consumers.

Burger King have also launched a similar bot in the US where users can send their order via Messenger and pick it up from store. Messenger bot’s eliminate the need for developing expensive Mobile Apps and are a much more appealing and refreshing alternative.

It’s an innovative Marketing technique and definitely makes Just Eat stick in my mind. I hope this is something more brands from all categories begin to roll out in the future.

That concludes my first #FridayThoughts, I hope you enjoyed it and I look forward to sharing more of my Social Media favourites with you next Friday. In the meantime, why not check out my last post here
